Angelo Friolo was born in 1946 in Trieste, Italy.
Coming from experiences in the educational teaching context, in close contact with Italo Zannier, in 1979 he participated in the international event “Venezia ’79 The Photography”: the significant event has been the occasion to provide to him the impulse to embrace the photographic art.
The author has exhibited in fifty shows in Italy and abroad. He provided numerous consultations on the issue of visual communication in various private and public institutions. He has formed very many teachers by initiating them to use the visual language and photography.
Formed at the University, in Behavioural Sciences, as expert and Professor of Photography, he has as the primary objective the research around visual perception, with particular emphasis on communication and photographic composition.
As a photographer and trainer, the author operates with any photo method, through the analogical and digital expression, both in the shooting and in post-production. He leads, systematically, training courses specifically on the language of photography and Photoshop for various institutions, including the University of Milan.
Since 1975, he has trained many young people. He has been for almost thirty years the director and professor of the Department of Photography of the United World College of the Adriatic in Duino-Trieste. The world famous photographer, pioneer and leading member of the Magnum Agency Erich Hartmann presented his photographic research, “Venice, behind the scenes,” exhibited in 1999 simultaneously in Trieste, Milan and Ferrar.
A photographic work of the author, vintage hand-printed in silver gelatine, was donated in 2000 to the President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, on the occasion of his visit to the city of Trieste.
The artist is counted as one of the significant authors of the ‘900 photography in Friuli Venezia Giulia; some of his works have been published in the homonymous catalogue, published by the Centre for Research and Archiving of Photography of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Since 2004 he has been President of the International Centre for Photographic Art, an institution in which he has occupied itself in the research, training and dissemination activities in the photographic and artistic field.

In an iconic synthesis, more pictorial than photographic, woven into an expressive plot obtained strictly with analogical technique, with silver salts, Friolo wanted to represent his personal perception of female beauty transposed into an idealization that transcends the plausible, to point to the very essence of sensuality. Hence the title: Metamorphosis.
